1. 1. Instructive’s Name

Preparation and recommendations for triplex - duplex or Doppler Ultrasound of renal arteries or any abdominal Doppler study, abdominal or pelvic vessels.

2. Scope and Field of Application​

It applies to all services of diagnostic imaging and medical services nationwide in which triplex - duplex or Doppler Ultrasound of renal arteries or any abdominal Doppler study, abdominal or pelvic vessels is performed.

3. Development​

The triplex - duplex or Doppler ultrasound registers the sound waves that are reflected from the movements of the blood, to measure its speed and other aspects of the way they flow in the renal arteries, pelvic and abdominal blood vessels.

3.1 Preparations and Recommendations Before the Study

Read carefully and follow these recommendations in preparation for the exam:

Note​:

  • You should consume a light lunch and dinner, such as chicken soup alone, ground beef, mashed potatoes, crackers or gelatin, accompanied by plenty of liquids such as juices and tea.
  • Do not eat or drink any type of food or liquid during the 6 hours before the ultrasound.
  • Do not consume dairy products or soft drinks.
  • Do not smoke or chew gum.
  • Take your medications with water, in the hours you have already established.
  • You must wear comfortable clothes for the test, preferably two pieces: shirt and pants or skirt.
  • If you have the results of previous exams related to this procedure, you must take them on the day of the exam.
  • You do not need to do this preparation if you meet at least one of the following conditions:
    - Under 15 years old.
    - Over 70 years old.
    - You’re pregnant.
    - You suffer from diabetes.
    - Suspected or suffer from kidney failure.

3.2 Recommendations During the Study​

  • You should avoid making movements while the study is being done.
  • Attend to the indications of the health personnel.

 

3.3 Post-Study Recommendations​

  • After the completion of the study, the patient can continue with the usual lifestyle.
