1. Instructive’s Name​

Preparation and Recommendations for Skull, Thorax, Neck, Larynx, Mastoids, Ears, Paranasal Sinuses, Temporomandibular Joint, and Orbits Contrast Tomography.

2. Scope and field of application​

Applies to all services of diagnostic imaging and medical services nationwide in which a contrast tomography of the skull, thorax, neck, larynx, mastoid, ears, paranasal sinuses, temporomandibular joint, and orbits is performed.

3. Development

It is a diagnostic study that is performed in a computerized tomography equipment that uses radiation, which allows to obtain detailed images of the interior of the body part (skull, thorax, neck, larynx, mastoids, ears, paranasal sinuses, temporomandibular joint and orbits), in axial images, allowing reconstructions in different planes and 3D; in which it is necessary to inject intravenously a substance called contrast medium, which highlights the parts of the body from which we want to obtain a detailed image.

3.1 Preparations and recommendations before the study​

Read carefully and follow these recommendations in preparation for the exam:

  • Attend the attention center 30 minutes before the scheduled time.
  • Do not consume any type of food or drink during the 6 hours before the exam.
  • If you take control medications, you should do so at the usual time with little water.
  • You must have a creatinine lab result no longer than one month and take it on the day of your appointment.
  • If you are pregnant or think you are pregnant or breastfeeding; immediately notify the radiology staff.
  • On the day of the appointment, you should inform the nurse if you have allergies to food, medicines or iodinated contrast media.
  • The following metal objects must be removed to enter the examination room: jewelry, watches, pins, hair clips, metal zippers or any other metal object.
  • You must bring the following documents:
  • - Identity document - Medical order – Medical chart - Previous radiological studies that are related to the study to be performed (tomography, X-rays, etc.) - Current Company Providing Health Services or insurance authorization.
  • Must attend the exam with a responsible adult and without disabilities.

3.2 Recommendations during the study​

  • You must avoid making movements while the study is being done.
  • Pay attention to the instructions of the health personnel.

 

3.3 Post-study recommendations

After the completion of the study; the patient can continue with his usual lifestyle.
