1. 1. Instructive´s name ​

Preparation and recommendations for renal and urinary tract ultrasound (includes spleen, aorta or adrenal glands).

2. Scope and Field of Application​

It applies to all services of diagnostic imaging and medical services nationwide in which renal and urinary tract ultrasound is performed.

3. Development​

It is used to help diagnose renal and urinary tract pathologies such as masses, cysts, stones, and related obstructive processes. Evaluates the bladder, as well as the size of the prostate and seminal vesicles in men. It does not allow to evaluate renal function.

3.1 Preparations and Recommendations Before the Study​

Read carefully and follow these recommendations in preparation for the exam:

  • Take 4 to 8 glasses of water an hour and a half to 2 hours before the test.
  • You must have a full bladder at the time of the exam; therefore, you should not urinate during the preparation, you must wait until the study is completed.
  • For children over 2 years old, drink 3 to 4 glasses of water.
  • Fasting is not needed for this exam; you can feed normally.
  • If you have the results of previous exams related to this procedure, you must take them on the day of the exam.

 

 

3.2 Recommendations During the Study​

 

  • You should avoid making movements while the study is being done.
  • Must have a full bladder.
  • Attend to the indications of the health personnel.

 

3.3 Post-Study Recommendations​

 

  • After the completion of the study, the patient can continue with the usual lifestyle.
