2. Scope and Field of Application​

Applies to all services of diagnostic imaging and medical services nationwide in which pylorus ultrasound is performed in children under 4 months of age.

3. Development 

It is performed in young infants with persistent vomiting and underweight. It allows the preparation of pylorus (sphincter between the stomach and the duodenum), which may be thickened, causing partial obstruction to the passage of food.

3.1 Preparation and Recommendations Before the Study

Read carefully and follow these recommendations in preparation for the exam:

  • For this exam, the fasting of maximum of 3 hours is required.
  • Carry a bottle with the food that the infant ingests or breast milk if you breastfeed.
  • The infant must be less than 4 months of age.
  • If you have the results of previous exams related to this procedure or the medical chart, you must take them.
  • It is essential to present the medical order at the time of the procedure. 

 

3.2 Recommendations During the Study 

 

  • You should avoid making movements while the study is being done.
  • Attend to the indications of the health personnel.

 

3.3 Post-Study Recommendations

 

  • After the completion of the study, the patient can continue with the usual lifestyle.
