Preparation and recommendations for gynecological or pelvic transabdominal ultrasound.

2. Scope and Field of Application

Applies to all services of diagnostic imaging and medical services nationwide in which transabdominal gynecological or pelvic ultrasound is performed.

3. Development​

Pelvic ultrasound is a study performed on women, looking for anatomical or functional abnormalities in the female pelvic organs; allows a detailed description of the uterus, ovaries and other female internal pelvic organs.

3.1 Preparations and Recommendations Before the Study​

Read carefully and follow these recommendations in preparation for the exam:

  • Fasting is not needed for this test; you can feed normally.
  • To carry out this test, it is necessary to have a full bladder, therefore follow the following instructions:
  • - Girls who control sphincters, up to 5 years: take 2 to 3 glasses of water 2 to 3 hours before the test.
    - Girls between 5 and 10 years old: drink 4 to 5 glasses of water 2 hours before the test.
    - Girls over 10 years old and adults: take 4 to 8 glasses of water 1 hour and a half to 2 hours before the test.
  • Must have a full bladder, feel urinating. Do not urinate until the test is done.
  • If you have the results of previous exams related to this procedure, you must take them on the day of the exam.

 

3.2 Recommendations During the Study​

  • You should avoid making movements while the study is being done.
  • Must have a full bladder.
  • Attend to the indications of the health personnel.

 

3.3 Post-Study Recommendations

  • After the completion of the study, the patient can continue with the usual lifestyle.
