  • Perform cleaning before taking the sample.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Wash the external genitals with water only.
  • In women: separating the minor and major lips (vulva), doing the cleanliness from front to back. In men: discovering the penis well, retracting the foreskin.
  • Use a clean and dry container of 2 to 2.5 liters. Do not wash it with bleach, limpid or strong soaps. Rinse it well and dry it the night before the sample collection.
  • The first urine of the morning is discarded and note the time (this sample is not collected).
  • Collect all urine from all micturitions for the next 6, 12 or 24 hours (as directed by a doctor).
  • Keep the container with the urine collected in the refrigerator, while collecting a new sample.
  • For 24-hour urine, the last sample collected will be the first urine of the morning of the next day.
  • As soon as the collection is finished, take the sample to the laboratory immediately, personally.
  • Alcoholic beverages should not be consumed during the day of urine collection.
  • To take into account:
    • Remember that, for some tests, a blood sample must be taken on the same day of delivery; therefore, you must go fasting for 12 hours.
    • Mark the sample with full names and surnames, identity document, telephone number, current age, size, and weight.
    • In the case that part of the sample has been lost or have forgotten to partially collect any sample, the study should be started again.

Remember: By taking these recommendations into account, you will contribute to a correct diagnosis.
