Preparation Instructions for Nasal, Pharyngeal, Otic, Ocular, Cutaneous Exudates, Wounds, Etc.

Read carefully and follow these recommendations in preparation for the exam​:

Nasal discharge: ​

  • Avoid drops and nasal baths before taking the sample

 

Nasopharyngeal discharge​​:

  • Do not wash your mouth with toothpaste, do not gargle or clean with any buccopharyngeal solution.
  • It must be fasting.

 

Eye discharge​:

  • Do not use ophthalmic drops 18 to 24 hours before taking the sample.
  • Absence of any cosmetic.
  • Do not use anesthetics that have antimicrobial activity.
  • Do not take antibiotics 24 to 48 hours before

 

Skin secretions, wounds:​

  • Do not apply creams, ointments or powders at the site of the lesion, at least two days before taking the sample.
  • Tell the person taking the sample the medicines you are taking, and if you have taken antibiotics in the last week.

 

Otic discharge:​

  • Do not use any medication 18 to 24 hours before taking the sample.

 

Urethral discharge:​

  • Not having sex the day before the sample is taken.
  • Perform adequate cleaning of external genitalia previously, to eliminate polluting secretions.
  • Urinary retention from 2 to 4 hours before taking the sample.

 


Remember: By taking these recommendations into account, you will contribute to a correct diagnosis.
