Preparation Instructions for Fecal Occult Blood

Read carefully and follow these recommendations in preparation for the exam:

  • The sample should not be collected before or during the menstrual period or if the patient suffers from bleeding from hemorrhoids or blood in the urine.
  • Alcohol, aspirin and other medications taken in excess can cause gastrointestinal irritation resulting in hidden bleeding; for this reason, these substances should be discontinued at least 48 hours before the test.
  • No dietary restriction is needed before the sample is collected.

Remember: By taking these recommendations into account, you will contribute to a correct diagnosis.
