Surgical Impact in the Management of Female Urinary Incontinence
Project: Surgical impact in the management of female urinary incontinence in terms of functionality and health-related quality of life in a clinic in the city of Medellín:
Researchers from the Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Unit, led by the researcher and Specialist Luis Guillermo Echavarria, and in the company of other researchers from the Public Health Research Group are conducting this investigation in which they propose to evaluate the impact of surgery with TVT or TOT suburethral sling in women diagnosed with urinary incontinence, before surgery, at three (3), six (6), and twelve (12) months after the therapeutic intervention.
Currently, the research project is in the data collection phase and, with the results obtained, it is intended to contribute to the quality of life of patients with urinary incontinence over time.
Neonatal Jaundice Screening Algorithm

Researchers from the Clinica Universitaria Bolivariana led by the professor and pediatrician Andrés Uribe, MD, together with another group of researchers from the School of Engineering of Antioquia (EIA) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), are conducting an investigation which pretends to develop a tool applicable from cell phones for the early detection of jaundice in newborns. Currently, the research project is in administrative adjustments and intellectual property agreements to start its data collection phase.
With the development of this tool, it is expected that it can be applied by physicians and parents, being useful for early detection of neonatal jaundice.

The teachers and researchers Miguel A. Mesa and Carlos J. Velasquez, together with a group constituted by students of the School of Medical Sciences of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, are conducting a research in which they propose to determine the sociodemographic, clinical, paraclinical, and follow-up features of adult patients with systemic sclerosis in two rheumatology reference centers from Medellin, from 2006-2016.
This research aims to understand in depth the behavior of this disease and its main clinical characteristics in the adult population of the city of Medellin, in order to provide scientific knowledge in the management of systemic sclerosis.
